SKIN AND IVORY

At Abu Camp in the Okavango Delta in Botswana there live a herd of trained African elephants, most have come from very different lives in foreign countries. However this image is of a five year old female known as ‘Kitimetse’, meaning ‘I am lost’ in the local language of Setswana. She was an orphan found about three and a half years ago, scarred, skinny, and wandering alone in the area, before she became a member of the Abu herd.

This image has been hand processed on warm tone fibre based paper, fixed, hypo-cleared, washed, selenium toned and washed again to the requirements of ANSI archival standards, by Dennis da Silva, one of the most respected craftsman in his field in South Africa.

Enjoy this image depicting a small portion of Africa.
