SAN BEADWORK
Every year various clans of San, from the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa, travel huge distances to the village of Dkar, near Ghanzi, in Western Botswana. They meet to hold a dance festival where each clan performs their own traditional dances for the others. They rub their skins with a mixture of fat and ochre until they glow, wear their best traditional clothing and jewellery and discuss life over a pipe of tobacco between dances.
